RIP Fr Heerey

On Thursday last, we found out the sad news that a very special member of our school community had passed away. Fr Heerey died after a short illness. He had served on the Board of Management of St. Patrick's BNS for many years and worked very hard for the parish of Ballinamore and Aughnasheelin. Fr Heerey cared a great deal about the pupils and staff of the school and was part of the furniture before his move. He kept up with the news and visited us earlier in the school year. The children, who remember him well, made a lovely book of poems in his memory. Click on the pictures below to read the poem.

Healthy Eating Awareness Week

Healthy Eating Awareness week was held in our school from 3rd- 7th April and was a great success. Everyone got the opportunity to taste a wide variety of fruits for Try-it Tuesday and Fruity Friday. Some classes also made smoothies, fruit and vegetable juices and fruit skewers during the week. We also learned about the New Food Pyramid and how to read food labels.  Well done to everyone for participating!

News in Scoil Chlann Naofa

We had a student teacher with us for the majority of the past term. Aisling Dwyer was in Mr. Mc Keon's Class and this was her final teaching practice. She will be qualified and teaching before the end of this school year. The pupils really enjoyed their time learning with Miss Dwyer and we know she will be a wonderful teacher. We wish her the best in her teaching career!

On the 31st of March we competed in the Scór na mBunscoileanna competition in Cloone Hall. We entered the ballad group, solo singing and tráth na gceist competitions. The standard was exceptionally high. The night was highly entertaining and we hope that we can continue to improve and enter more categories in the years ahead as Scoil Chlann Naofa. Thanks so much to the parents who attended on the  night. We know Friday evenings are precious and it was a great experience for the children to perform and compete on stage. Well done to Amelia in 5th class who received a highly commended medal for solo singing.

We are very sorry to say goodbye to Mr Jonathan Beirne who has been in 5th and 6th class (boys) for the last two terms. He had an excellent way with the children and they really thrived in his class. Thanks for all the hard work Mr Beirne. Every cloud has a silver lining and we are delighted to welcome back Ms. Sinéad Quinn after her maternity leave. Fáilte ar ais Ms Quinn!

Mr Mc Keon's Class

Pictured below are Mr Mc Keon's Class and some of their work from this term.
We have had an Artist in Scoil Chlann Naofa for the last few months. Naomi has spent lots of time in 4th class but 5th and 6th class have also benefitted. Each room has produced a joint piece of felting. The girls in 5th and 6th are pictured making drawings inspired by Michelangelo.
