1916 Flag Raising Cermeony 15th March 2016
Every school in Ireland was presented with a tri color flag to be raised across the country on the 15th March 2016 to celebrate the 100 years celebration of the 1916 Rising. The children performed for parents & guests. The children also prepared their own proclamation which was read on the day.
2016 Proclamation of St. Patrick’s
B.N.S.
To
the People of the Irish Nation and Diaspora we need you to answer Ireland’s
call. In memory of the Irish heroes who
came before us and on the 100th anniversary of our 1916 Rising we
now bravely look to our future.
We
assert that Ireland now belongs to the Irish and the new Irish. Our ancestors fought for us to enjoy this
freedom. We are calling all Irish
citizens to be loyal to our proud country.
Our
country will recognise and respect all of its citizens. It will endeavour to ensure good living
standards and education for all through the hard work of the Irish
Economy. Our citizens are entitled to
have hopes and dreams and our Republic will give them the opportunity to
achieve these. People of all ages,
abilities, cultures and beliefs will be treated with respect, justice, love and
equality.
We
proclaim that Ireland will have a stable and fair government which will
represent the citizens of Ireland equally.
This government will endeavour to protect the family and will give
recognition to all forms of family in Ireland.
We also proclaim that each citizen will have the right to happiness and
to feel safe in their own home.
We
hereby pledge to preserve our beautiful culture including our music, sport,
language and history. Finally we
encourage all Irish citizens abroad to remember and take pride in their Irish
heritage mar a deir an seanfhocal níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin.

School Trip To Dublin
All the classes from the school went on a trip to Dublin on Monday last.
First, we went to a performance of the pantomime 'Beauty & The Beast' in the Tivoli Theatre.
It was a great show and we even got to take part, learning a new dance.
The teachers even had to perform the dance on stage!
Our next stop was at Cathal Brugha Barracks.
We got to see some of the weapons and vehicles the Irish army use.
We even got to try them out!
(Thank goodness there were no bullets - I think the teachers were in the sights!)
We were also treated to a tour of the Barracks' museum.

We were also treated to a tour of the Barracks' museum.
The artefacts on show included vintage weaponry and many items relating to Michael Collins.
These included Collins' deathmask, his desk and the flag that was draped over his coffin.

Finally, we got to see and use the gadgets used by the Bomb Disposal Unit.
We disposed of our own 'bomb' and also got to see the high-powered cameras they use.
We even got to try on the Bomb Disposal suits - They were VERY heavy!
We stopped for dinner on the way home and had some time to play in the jungle gym.
A great day was had by all and the boys represented the school excellently.
Here are some photos from the day!
