Busy Bees in St. Patrick's B.N.S.

We have been busy in St.Patrick's B.N.S. the last few weeks. 5th and 6th class competed in a Spelling Bee which was won by Senan in 6th class. Killian came second and Bernard came third in the School Quallifiers. Senan went to Mohill to take part in the competition. He did really well on the day but lost out to a competitor from Carrick.
We took part in Engineering Week and 5th and 6th went to Lock 6 for a demonstration and presentation by Waterways Ireland.
Thanks to the Parents' Association, the children (and teachers!) had delicious crepes. Thanks to Rita, Sheila and Pascale, we really appreciate the treat.

Fair Trade Fortnight 2015

Fair Trade Fortnight begins next Monday. We have begun to learn about Fair Trade in 4th and 5th class and are finding it really interesting and worthwhile. If you buy something with the Fair Trade mark, it means the farmers and food producers are getting a fairdeal for their product. We are starting a project in Mrs. Shannon's room. There are links on the side of this page to find out more. Please watch the short video below.

Lá Fhéile Bríde

Amárach Lá 'le Bríde. Inné rinneamar crois ar scoil. Chabhraigh na tuismitheoirí linn agus bhí áthas an domhain orainn leo.

Here is the song that we sing to Brigid. It is a lovely song that we sing every to welcome St. Brigid's Day and the first day of Spring.

Lyrics

We sing a song to Brigid,
Brigid brings the spring
Awakens all the fields and the flowers
And calls the birds to sing.

All were welcome at her door,
no one was turned away.
She loved the poor, the sick and the sore,
She helped them on their way.

She laid her cloak out on the ground
And watched it grow and grow,
In wells and streams and fields of green
St. Brigid’s blessings flow.

Spraoi sa Sneachta

We have had lots of fun in the snow recently! Thankfully the school has not had a 'Snow Day' this school year. We have really enjoyed the cold weather and built plenty of snowmen. The above snowman was christened President Frosty Olaf Snow by the boys.

Happy New Year to our readers!

Happy 2015 to you all. The blog hasn't been updated in a little while so we have plenty of news and pictures for you all. Our Christmas musical was a wonderful success. We are proud of every boy and how they performed and behaved on the night. It was very well attended. We wish to thank all families and friends who attended for their generosity. Thanks also to the Parents' Assocation for organising the raffle and providing the children with treats on the night. We look forward to seeing it on DVD soon.

A Time to Give

Christmas is a time for giving and not just to family and friends. In St. Patrick's B.N.S. we do our best to think of those who are in need. We have recently taken part in the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. (See recent post) Part of the voluntary admission to our Musical will also be donated locally.

One week to go...

We are very busy at school this time of year and even more so as we prepare to perform our version of Oliver the Musical for our parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents etc on Wednesday the 17th of December. We have been been learning songs, actions and lines along with doing school work. So we will really deserve a holiday when the 19th of December comes along!

Oliver costumes

We are holding our first dress rehearsal tomorrow for Oliver during school time. It is important that children have a costume as soon as possible. The following pictures may give you an idea of what is suitable. We do not expect parents to purchase costumes. Old shirts, trousers that can be cut up, scarves, fingerless gloves, flat caps, waistcoats, old clothes that are too small, hankerchiefs, neckties etc will all make good costumes.

Recently in Scoil Naomh Pádraig

Having fun at Yoga.
We have resumed yoga with Ann since the mid term break. It costs 6 euro for six sessions and is well worth it. Children learn breathing, relaxation, meditation, stretches and poses. It is definitely a highlight of our week.
Presentation and music session in the library on the folk songs
of Scottish poet and composer Robert Burns.
Last month we all took part in a seminar by Monica Monahan from the Anti Bullying Coalition. We are adopting the new recommended forward thinking approaches of Whole School Awareness, a No Blame No Anger policy and are aiming to be as pro-active as possible as a school. Bullying will not be tolerated. We want every child to be safe and happy in our school. Click here to read about the Anti Bullying Coalition.

Team Hope Shoebox Appeal

This is the video which accompanies the Team Hope Appeal for 2014. We are proud to support this cause and are doing so for the fifth year running. It is a fantastic way to show less fortunate children in Eastern Europe and Africa that we care.
Please remember the Four Ws if you are filling a box. 1. Wash- something to wash with (hygiene related things like a toothbrush or comb) 2. Wear (t-shirt, socks, warm hat etc) 3. Write (like a copy, colours, pencils etc) 4. WOW (something to make your recipient go 'Wow') It costs four euro to post the box and you need to fill in the form that was sent home. Thanks so much for your support!
