Fun on our Maths trail

The children from Junior & Senior Infants took part in a Maths trail on Thursday. They walked down to their local Supervalu where they worked in teams to find everything that was on their lists. They had to find items beginning with certain letters, different numbers in the prices as well as items of different colours and shapes. They enjoyed finding each item and putting it into their baskets. Thanks very much to the staff in Supervalu as well as all the parents who helped out on the day.

What a busy month in Senior Infants!

We have been very busy in Senior Infants since we came back from our Christmas holidays. We learned lots of things based on the topic of Winter. We had great fun reading the story "The Emperor's egg" and learning about the life cycle of a penguin. We learned that Emperor penguins live in Antarctica so we created Antarctica scenes during Art lessons.
We have been working hard in the supermarket role-play station during Aistear. We love dressing up as the shopkeeper and using the cash register.
One of the highlights in January was getting to use Ipads during our lessons. We loved using them to practice our letter formation and numeracy skills.

Too busy to blog...

Happy New Year to all our readers!
We had a wonderful December in Scoil Chlann Naofa. We took part in plenty of fun activities in the run up to Christmas. We prepared for a mass and carol service which took place on the 20th of December in St. Patrick's Church. Some very talented children performed on the guitar, piano and tin whistle. We were very proud of each and every child who took part and thanks to the parents who attended. We did plenty of Christmas Art and music for the festive season. The highlight was our Christmas Panto trip. We went to Dublin on Tuesday the 19th of December. We saw the panto- Beauty and the Beast in the Helix DCU. It was an amazing day out. The cast were excellent and the children were so well mannered. A great day was had by all. The Junior end of the school also had a fantastic day out to the Dock on the 12th of December. The children were well entertained and of course very well behaved.
Let's look forward to lots more learning fun in 2018.

Science week in Senior Infants

Science week took place from the 12th-19th of November 2017. Senior Infants had great fun taking part in experiments during the week. They made their own lava lamps using 4 simple ingredients- water, vegetable oil, food colouring and alka seltzer tablets. The alka seltzer tablets created the bubbles in the lava lamp.
They also used magnets around the classroom. They found that lots of things in the classroom were attracted to magnets e.g. the legs of the tables and chairs, the whiteboard, the door handle and even the radiators. They enjoyed exploring and using magnets in their small groups.

A visit from the vet

Senior Infants have been busy learning about being a vet. They used the role-play area during Aistear time to go into the different roles found in a veterinary clinic such as a vet, a receptionist, a nurse and a customer. They were lucky to have a visit from a local vet who spoke to them about her job and how they can help to take care of their own animals. Thanks very much to Paula for visiting the children.
